Will the world end in 2012?
Toying with the prediction that 2012 may in fact be the year of the final total collapse of everything, film-makers have imagined many heroes taking last-ditch stands. Little, Tender, Solitary, Broke, Alienated, Armed or Re-run, all find their place among the 52 films that make up this year’s Black Movie selection.
Film-lover, be glad! With around 30 films from Asia, this edition is certainly dominated by the continent, but our programming is growing more international, adapting to contemporary production realities and film directors’ cosmopolitan habits. In particular, we’ve widened the spectrum to include a country that is both a rich film breeding ground and an essential item this year: Greece..
And in the “daring” department, the Ghosts section highlights films that ought to have been part of the selection but weren’t, due to the greed of those who hold the film rights. An absurd deprivation when today these films are only two clicks away – illegally and in bad condition, but for free.
So, if the end is really on its way, it’s time to share, go out, enjoy oneself. May the fête be apocalyptic!
