All the boys are called João

2012 was annus horribilis for Portuguese cinema: the economic crisis turned off all the financial support taps. Concretely, that meant interrupting film shooting from one moment to the next, and shutting down numerous projects. In spite of the difficulties, Portuguese cinema has rarely been so alive on the international scene, with a bevy of new talent, all special, relieving an old guard which already included some great original artists. After João Cesar Monteiro, Manuel de Oliveira or Pedro Costa, we’re happy to introduce João Pedro Rodrigues, João Guerra de Mata, João Salaviza and Miguel Gomes! Pleased to meet you!

A portuguese program will take place at the Cinémathèque Suisse from the 21st of January till the 28th of February 2013.
Schedule at www.cinematheque.ch
