Showing its ambition through content, not size, the Black Movie festival is once more offering a selection of films both highly specialized and accessible, rooted in a contemporary social and esthetic reality, and developing new and innovative programs.

Black Movie remains the only film-related event that echoes a cosmopolitan Geneva: a contemporary festival reflecting the amazing diversity and wealth of movies from Africa, Asia and South-America.

Furthermore, the festival goes on canvassing Asia as it becomes obvious that this continent, whose production is not very present in our theaters, is proving to be an extraordinary breeding-ground for cinema.

The 2006 Black Movie festival presents 7 programs: Bodies:a Chronicle, the thematic section of African, Asian and South American films, offers a selection of portraits that display bodies bearing the marks of unusual life stories. Black Screens presents 9 films on a rebellious South African youth. On the Asian side, the Focus on Singapore's Cinema is a chance to familiarize oneself with a surprising and involved cinema. The Tribute to Seijun Suzuki will screen the troublemaker's most provocative movies of the Nikkatsu studios period as well as his latest work. The Documentarios do Brasil program offers an opportunity to delve into contemporary Brazilian documentary filmmaking. To be continued…, a new section, will present filmmakers whose movies bode well for a daring career.

In order to familiarize 4 to 12 year olds with films from other countries, Black Movie for Kids offers children a selection that will contribute to widen their horizon: an Asian trip, an African afternoon or a Benshi movie, an abundant program is in store for children.

The festival will host Round Tables again as well as meetings in the Discussion Lounge. The winners of the Audience Award (granted by the SDC) and the Young Adults Jury Award (financed by the Dept. of Social Affairs) will be announced during Closing Night on Saturday, February 18th at the Zoo, followed by an opportunity to watch the amazing visual mise-en-scènes of Japanese Video Jockeys (VJs).

More… is an invitation to discover a play by the Compagnie des Cris as well as Concerts and DJ parties at the Chat Noir and the Moulin à Danse

Le Lounge du Tigre, the festival's lobby at the Maison des Arts du Grütli, la Barje au Spoutnik and le Café du Grütli will welcome you with food and beverages in a relaxed atmosphere.
