Black Movie festival is back - more inquisitive and determined than ever.

Inquisitive? You bet, twice as much! Impossible to get rid of the urge to track down films to the far ends of the earth: films in which the director risks new forms, films that may be simple, yet transform us, films that dare talk about love in the midst of war, make need palpable, and show fantasy without blushing, films in which a shot, a gesture or a glance express an entire universe. The films that make up our festival are the result of hard work, tenacity and at times great courage, and we would like to extend our admiration to the directors.

There are seven sections this year with a total of 72 films from 29 countries

Disappearance is the subject of nine films spanning three continents, from Algeria to Paraguay via South Korea for the opening film The Host. After Mao revisits China with relevant films by young directors, a complete Jia Zhang Ke retrospective and a stop in Hong Kong. Mexico, Sweet Folly lets us discover the new generation of filmmakers and their uninhibited view of Mexican society. The Mexico cinema school program will be shown in parallel and a tribute to the great Ripstein will top off this Mexican outing. Thaï Factory offers five offbeat films that resist categorization. A selection of mid-length films from the innovative Jeonju Festival (South Korea) demonstrates that time and formal constraints can prove to be very fertile, and filmmakers whose work is dear to our hearts are highlighted in To be continued..., the festival's must-see venue. The Black Movie for Kids will delight both children and adults. The festival also offers advantageous discounts and free screenings to holders of the 20 - year - old/20 CHF card.

The festival's sidelines are particularly exciting this year. The festival's new venue, BlackBox at Art en Ile , will welcome festivalgoers daily with special programs (in collaboration with Thank you for coming ). Le Mezcal , the ephemeral lounge at the Café du Grütli as well as la Barje at the Spoutnik will provide snacks and quench thirsts between screenings. The 2007 festival edition teems with activity, from cinema above all, to concerts, DJ parties, encounters and debates .

Unexpected changes have occurred since the release of the program and the catalog, please take a look at our last minute section on this website.
