The Brave Ones
In 2014, a young woman went to hospital in Argentina with severe pain and bleeding in her lower abdomen. On the spot, she was arrested by the police, who accused her of having performed a clandestine abortion. Placed in preventive detention for two years, she is imprisoned for murder. When she crosses paths with lawyer Soledad Deza, the latter, accompanied by a women's collective, takes up the case and embarks on a crusade to secure her release.
Rooted in the context of the Ni una menos protests against violence against women, the strong media coverage of this legal case contributed to the legalization of abortion in the country at the very end of 2020.
Inspired by Ana Elena Correa's novel Somos Belén, this poignant political fiction about feminist struggles revisits a key event that changed history for millions of women.
