After the tragic death of his wife Nat, March sinks into mourning. But his outlook brightens again when he discovers that his wife's spirit has reincarnated in a vacuum cleaner! Their bond is stronger than ever, but not everyone approves: his family, haunted by the angry ghost of a worker who died because of the dust, rejects this relationship. Meanwhile, in the streets, victims of the 2010 military crackdown are taking it upon themselves to torment the minister…
A tragicomic ghost film that gently and sarcastically addresses both climate change and industrial issues, Fantôme utile also takes on a deeper meaning, as the term “dust” is used in Thai slang to refer to human beings who are treated as inferior.
From romantic household appliance comedy to political dystopia, the filmmaker conjures up spectres from all levels of society, in a movement that embraces both the intimate (romantic passion) and the collective (the fight against dictatorship).
