1983. Alicia, mother of little Gaby, teaches history at a secondary school in Buenos Aires. Her husband has a very good job and their comfortable life seems all mapped out. After meeting up with a friend who had disappeared for a while, Alicia begins to have doubts about the current regime, and her certainties begin to waver… Thus begins a slow and painful journey in search of the truth that could cause her to lose everything.
Enhanced by masterful direction and cinematography, this political fiction is a poignant demonstration of belated awareness, beautifully interpreted by Norma Aleandro, who won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance.
Released two years after the real events that took place during the military dictatorship (1976–1983), La historia oficial won Argentina its first Oscar.
