In a near future, the world is divided by closed borders. In Mexico, Memo Cruz lives in a pueblo dependent on the dam built by a company that controls the entire water supply. Memo dreams of finding work in the high-tech factories of the big cities in the north. These same factories that offer workers the opportunity to remotely control the numerous construction robots operating in the United States, just across the border...
Mexican labourers working on construction sites in the United States without having to travel: in 2008, this was the vision of Mexican filmmaker Alex Riviera, a great fan of science fiction, inspired by Blade Runner and Brazil. In his first film, he imagines with utmost seriousness the future of the relationship between the global North and the global South: separated by physical walls, connected by digital technology and economic relations. This is the dream of Trump's America, which could well become a reality in the near future.
