Orwellian Delusions

2015: as Chinese influence gradually tightens its grip on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which still enjoys a high degree of autonomy, five young filmmakers imagine the megacity in 2025. The five short films represent various cultural and political aspects affected by centralised imperialism.

The predictions will hardly turn out absurd, since the brutal implementation of the National Security Law during Covid in 2020 quickly eroded democratic freedoms and precipitated Hong Kong's subjugation by China.

Made after the 2014 pro-democracy protests that saw two million people take to the streets, Ten Years was voted Best Film at the Hong Kong Film Awards despite the fact that mainland Chinese authorities censored articles mentioning it and banned the broadcast of the ceremony.
Visionary and powerful, these short films have forced their creators temporarly into anonymity for fear of reprisals from the authorities.

Attention: This film contains violence!.
