Fatherless, Áfàméfùnà is placed by his mother as an apprentice, alongside Paulo, with the rich merchant Odogwu. The Igbo values are passed on to him: the trade ethic, hard work, and brotherhood above all. And with Paulo, Áfàméfùnà learns how to dress cool, meet his mates in the street and get by in this unkind world. Áfàméfùnà and Paulo evolve together in this environment governed by Igbo culture, with its many codes of honour and respect. But one day tragedy strikes...
