Photo Kegham of Gaza: Unboxing
Kegham Djeghalian Senior immortalised Gaza. A photographer who survived the Armenian genocide, he founded the city's first commercial studio, Photo Kegham, in 1944. Portraits, official photos, family albums and scenes of everyday life, his eye captured the history of Gaza. His grandson, Kegham Djeghalian Junior, exhumes this heritage.
A few red boxes full of negatives and souvenirs, are the only witnesses to his grandfather's past. The photographs reveal forgotten faces and interrupted histories, showing Gaza in all its intimacy. Each photo is charged with a raw, poetic power. A visual narrative in which each image bears the memory of a city, a family and a people.
A round table discussion with Kegham Djeghalian Junior will take place on Monday 20 at 18:30, at Fonction:Cinéma.
