    What is the Black Movie Festival?

    The Black Movie Festival is a film festival.
    A film festival is an event.
    A lot of films are shown during this event.

    When is it?

    From 17 January to 26 January 2025.

    What do we see at the Black Movie Festival?

    At the Black Movie Festival there are:

    • films
    • conferences
    • workshops
    • a photo exhibition
    • parties

    The films come from all over the world.
    The conferences are about the subjects of the films.
    The workshops are for children.
    The photo exhibition is called « Photo Kegham of Gaza : Unboxing ».
    The parties take place in the evening, at the Groove club.

    Who is it for?

    The Black Movie Festival shows films for adults
    but also for children.
    The children's programme is called Black Movie for Kids
    Adults can also watch films from the Black Movie for Kids

  • How do I buy a ticket?

    There are 3 ways to buy a ticket:

    • On the Black Movie Festival website.
    • At the Black Movie Festival ticket office.

    It's at the Grütli, 16 rue du Général-Dufour, Plainpalais.

    • At the ticket office of the cinema showing your chosen film.

    The ticket office opens 30 minutes before the film begins.

    How do I buy on the Festival website?

     1. Choose the film you want to see and go to the film's page.
     2. Click on the basket at the bottom right, next to the chosen screening.
     3. Choose the rate and the number of tickets.
     4. Click on Add to basket.
     5. Click on Finalise order.
     6. Enter your payment details and confirm.
     7. You will receive an email with your tickets.
     8. Download your tickets to your phone or print them out.

    Do you need any help?

    You can ask for help at the festival ticket office at the Grütli.
    The ticket office is open at the following times:
    Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16: 17:00-20:00
    Friday 17 to Sunday 19: 13:00-22:00
    Monday 20 to Sunday 26: 16:00-21:00

  • How much does it cost?

    There are several rates.
    You can find the different rates by clicking on this link.

    There is a special rate for people with disabilities.
    It costs CHF 10.- per screening.
    It is free for the accompanying persons.
    To reserve a free seat, write an email to accessibilite@blackmovie.ch.

  • Relax screenings

    The Black Movie Festival offers Relax screenings.
    Relax screenings are cultural outings with:

    • A relaxed and caring environment
    • An adapted welcome

    During a Relax screening, the codes are a little more flexible.
    For example, the public can:

    • Move
    • Talk
    • Express their emotions

    During a Relax screening at the Black Movie Festival, there are:

    • People at the welcome desk wearing Relax t-shirts
    • A little light in the room
    • The sound of the film lowered
    • The cinema door open

    The Relax screening at the Black Movie Festival 2025 are:

    • Ami-amie (ce qui nous lie), Wednesday 22 January at 11:00, at Grütli Simon. /!\ Attention, note that the number of places available for wheelchairs is fully booked for this screening.
    • De la mer à la Lune, Thursday 23 January at 11:00, at the MEG

  • Audio subtitles

    The Black Movie Festival offers an audio subtitle system for people who cannot read subtitles easily.
    For example, visually impaired people, dyslexics, children or anyone for whom reading fast is complicated.

    Audio subtitles are like individual dubbing. You hear the French subtitles read out loud in your earphones.

    Films with audio subtitles are :

    To get the audio subtitles you need:

    • Your smartphone
    • Your earphones

    How to download audio subtitles on your smartphone?

    Before the screening
     1. Connect your smartphone to an internet network (for example at home).
     2. Download the Greta application by clicking on this link.
     3. Enable the “sound amplification” version in the settings.
     4. Create an account.
     5. Search for the desired film on the application, under the “events” category.
     6. Download the audio subtitles.
    In the cinema
     7. When you enter the cinema, open the chosen film on the Greta application.
     8. When the film starts, during synchronization, you will hear a sound like a heartbeat, for a few seconds.
     9. Synchronization is done automatically and the audio subtitles start in your headphones.

    Tips and information

    • Make sure that your phone's microphone is not hidden. It is with the phone's microphone that the application can synchronize the audio subtitles.
    • Charge your phone battery well before the screening.
    • There is no need to have internet access during the film if the audio subtitles have been downloaded in advance. Synchronization is done without internet.
