Peregrinations
Late 50s. A team of Japanese scientists in Antarctica has to leave their base because of extreme weather conditions, leaving behind fifteen sledge dogs. For almost a year, the dogs have to survive on their own...
Based on a true story and a huge success in Japan, Antarctica is a surprising mix between a family adventure film and an intense drama. It's easy to imagine this feature film being shown on television on a Sunday afternoon without warning and traumatising generations of children! Today, some scenes make you smile, while others play with the limits of what is tolerable. The great strength of Antarctica remains: a sincere exploration of the deep bond that can exist between humans and animals. With the added bonus of a poignant original score by Vangelis.
