Peregrinations
After being shipwrecked off the coast of Florida in 1528, the Spanish conquistador Cabeza de Vaca marched across America to the Pacific coast of Mexico, becoming the first European to set foot in these lands. During this eight-year quest, he lived with indigenous tribes and learned the secrets of their mystical life...
Cabeza De Vaca recounts a fantastical historical odyssey with an aesthetic akin to that of Werner Herzog's Aguirre, the Wrath of God. Moreover, after this film, cinematographer Guillermo Navarro continued his career with filmmakers such as Guillermo Del Toro and Quentin Tarantino. Selected for the Berlin Film Festival in 1991, Cabeza De Vaca is now regularly cited as one of the best Mexican films of all time.
