In the Chinese megalopolis of Beijing, there is a timeless space: a six-square-meter room, where Li Eryang, a young idealistic and communist musician, creates a free Republic to welcome his"cosmic brothers and sisters".
The latter come and go to the Republic and seem to lead a carefree life. Playing or listening to music, smoking and drinking, eating... and above all talking, exchanging and theorising: Marx, Engels and Mao are also invited into this cramped space, and Li Eryang directs this little world like the conductor of a new theory. Living out their days with passion and commitment, the small community is oblivious to the danger that threatens to undermine the Republic...
