Retratos Fantasmas

An admirable journey through time, architecture and cinema in the urban landscape of Recife, a coastal conurbation in Brazil: a historical and human territory, observed through the prism of its cinemas, hotbeds of 20th-century fantasies and outings. Retratos Fantasmas is a portrait of Recife's city centre, a historic space where studios, offices and huge cinemas were located, the privileged spaces for large gatherings during the 20th century. This spatio-temporal wander is richly composed of photographs and animated images gathered from personal collections, film productions and institutions.
