To tie in with the window on Nigerian cinema and the film about the extraordinary destiny of Fela Kuti's mother, Lausanne-based band Kalakuta Mentality will pay tribute to Fela Anikulapo Kuti with a cover of his Afrobeat classics! With 16 musicians and a lead singer, they recreate the groove and transmit the political messages of the rebellious Fela, transporting the audience into the atmosphere of the Lagos Shrine.

For the second part of the night, we will have the pleasure of welcoming Luvanga, a young Geneva artist awarded for his beatmaking, whose music fuses Afrobeat and pop with a subtle French touch. Olive T. will end up the night, weaving her musical tale influenced by history and technology. For the warm-up, Magz, a rising star on the Geneva scene, will surprise us with a set mixing gqom, amapiano and batida..

Luvanga

Afrodance · live

LUVANGA Kimonawoko is an artist-producer and prodigy on the Swiss scene.
As a teenager, he started out playing the piano in church and then began composing music on his own. A few years later, he joined several rock and hip-hop bands as a keyboardist. This enabled him to play a number of concerts and perfect his early stage skills.
He has worked with emerging Swiss artists such as Scornovy, The SugaZz and Awori, as well as international artists such as Les Amazones d'Afriques from Peter Gabriel's famous Real World label.
“Luvanga is moving in just one direction: towards the future. A future where tribal music wears perfecto, where ancestral music wears sneakers and where traditional music is played on machines.”

Afrobeat · live

Kalakuta Mentality Afrobeat is a Lausanne-based band born in 2019 out of its members' shared love of Afrobeat music. In order to pay tribute to the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the charismatic Nigerian figure of this musical genre, the group is dedicated to producing covers of Fela & Africa ‘70.
Seduced by the hypnotic groove, percussive themes and rebellious lyrics characteristic of Fela's music, the 16 musicians faithfully reproduce the original Africa ‘70 line-up. They play the Black President's most memorable hits live for an hour and a half, with a lead singer adding her own personal touch.
Kalakuta Mentality has already performed at La Coquette in Morges, the Festival Objectif Terre in Lausanne, the Parc des Bastions in Geneva and the LAFF Festival in summer 2023, among others.
