Shang, 30, has spent 7 years in Taipei, and now returns to his parents’ oyster-farming village in the most remote corner of the south of the island. A typical child of social success, he finds it difficult to return to a quiet and very precarious life. His old friend Kun wants to set up a tourism project with him, and sees a bright future ahead. Will Sheng stay? An accident in the family will redistribute the cards.
Highlighting a local culture (oyster farmers and the carnival for the God of the Sea), Ohong Village above all evokes the mirage of the galloping economy and its repercussions on the common people.
Magnificently filmed in super 16mm, the film bears witness to a common experience at a given time: that of a generation at the dawn of a new era, when all dreams seemed possible.
