Specific projects

Bobo-Dioulasso, with a population of one million, is the second largest city and the cultural capital of Burkina Faso, a country known as the flagship of African and Panafrican cinema in the heart of West Africa. In spite of this, Bobo-Dioulasso no longer has a single running movie theatre. In 2013, the Association de soutien du cinéma au Burkina Faso launches, in Bobo-Dioulasso, a rescue plan to restore Bobo-Dioulasso’s legendary movie theatre, Ciné Guimbi, which opened in 1957 and closed in 2005, in order to overcome this unfortunate situation affecting many other countries in the world today. The goal is to turn the Guimbi into more than a movie theatre. The idea is to create a popular, integrated and accessible urban living space, a place for interactions, encounters, training and education. The first phase of the project is about to see the light of day: a small indoor hall (174 seats), an open-air hall (250 seats), a café-restaurant (100 seats), a documentation room and offices will become operational in the year 2022.

Since 2013, the Black Movie Festival has sponsored and supported the Ciné Guimbi project through fundraising, professional support, panel discussions to publicize this project and explain its challenges.

#cine is an association founded in 2017 and based in Neuchâtel. Its main mission is to offer film screenings specially designed for teenagers. Present in 10 Swiss cities, #cine entrusts the organisation of film events to teams of highly motivated young people. From September to June, each team takes over a cinema or festival once a month to present - in previews or special screenings - a film around which it has designed an original event.
A #cine event is a screening + an activity. The concept? Discover the best of cinema at an affordable price and have a great time at the same time!
From the selection of films, to the design, communication, organization and animation of events, it is the young people of the #cine teams who are in charge of each stage.
The teams benefit from the guidance and support of a local coordinator.
#cine is committed to the democratisation of culture and the strengthening of cinemas as a vehicle for social cohesion among young people.

A humanitarian sea rescue association, SOS Méditerranée was founded in 2015 by citizens wishing to take action in response to the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean. Since then, the association has rescued nearly 40,000 people, with nearly 30,000 missing. A real humanitarian tragedy is unfolding in the central Mediterranean Sea, where international maritime law is being flouted, despite the fact that it requires all those in distress at sea to be rescued and brought to a safe place of disembarkation. Totally apolitical and neutral, SOS Méditerranée fights to ensure that this human right is respected.

Such an effort at sea is only possible with broad support on land. Buy a solidarity ticket and help save lives at sea!

The Black Movie for Kids programme "La Grande Bouffe" will be shown at a "Sorties Relax" screening on Wednesday 24 at 11am at the Cinémas du Grütli. 

PVA-Genève is an association wanted and created by people living with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones in 1992. It is active in the prevention and fight against HIV/AIDS and STIs through its actions and in particular through testimonies from young people. The real pride of our association is our “Projet Témoignages” ("Testimonial Project”). We respond to requests from schools, which feel the need to provide their pupils with more information about HIV and STIs, and we take part in various events to raise awareness among the population of Geneva. Meeting people, interact and chat with them, and getting to know them is the best way of breaking down prejudice and stigmatisation!
This project is made possible by the courage of some of our members who, trained in testimonial and prevention work, lend their faces and their life stories to bring out our messages of prevention and the fight against stigma. This project gave rise to the short film "Pilules Vidéos" in 2018 and the comic strip "Histoires en Pilules" in 2019.

Since its foundation in 1983, emp'ACT (formerly Genève Tiers-Monde) has been committed to empowering local populations and transforming their realities, by implementing concrete projects that meet their essential needs and promote their autonomy.
We are convinced that every individual has the right to live in a healthy environment, to have access to drinking water, to enjoy food and energy security, and to play an active part in the decisions that influence their lives.

In consultation with local populations, our main areas of action are:

• Environmental justice and access to water
• Women's rights and empowerment
• Food and energy sovereignty

Today, around ten projects run in partnership with local associations reach an average of 70,000 beneficiaries in Togo, Peru and Colombia.
The association also has a mandate to raise awareness of international cooperation among the Swiss public and political decision-makers.
emp'ACT is a member of the Fédération genevoise de coopération (FGC), the Coalition for Responsible Multinationals, and the social economy network APRES-GE.
