Tatami

Sweat and Tremor
Leila, an Iranian judoka, flies from victory to victory at the world championships. In the middle of the competition, the Islamic Republic orders her to withdraw in order to prevent her match with the Israeli judoka...
A political, sporting and feminist thriller, Tatami skilfully combines the tension of the competition with that of the government threat hanging over the two protagonists. Unfortunately still relevant today, this feature film is co-directed by a duo of Iranian-Israeli filmmakers: Guy Nattiv, who recently directed the biopic Golda about the former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir, and Zar Amir Ebrahimi, who also plays the role of Maryam here, a year after winning the best actress prize at Cannes with Holy Spider.
