Great Absence

Takashi is called to visit his demented father, played by Tatsuya Fuji, he hasn't seen in 20 years. Through the unreal fragments of his speeches and the testimonies of the women who surrounded him, Takashi tries to untangle the truth from the fantasy.He also picks up the pieces of his youth, when his parents separated. Belated realisations, loss of illusions and attempts to draw out the threads that make sense follow one another in this family deconstruction. Takashi is gradually destroying a myth.

Based in part on Chika-ura's personal experience and shot on 35mm film, Great Absence ultimately reveals the life of an ordinary man, made up of passions, disappointments, cowardice and an owner's instinct, in a tense and moving family investigation.
